“The Octave Of Elephants” draws its spiritual essence from the words of Les A. Murray, whose poem throbs with elephantine and musical imagery. As Les Murray breathes life and presence into his evocative text, the music beguiles the “great grey boulders” to dance and weave, weep and grieve, make love in stupendous silence. Playfully they sway in ghostly splendour, and I pray for their sacred magnitude to grace our universe with their gigantic gentleness so long as our hearts beat.
The poetry of Les Murray echoes our timeless land, as the essence of Ganesha, elephant-headed god of Indian mythology, reflects in spirit the unique qualities of the land of Australia.
Clare Hansson.
